SURFING

Kavieng is located just a couple of degrees south of the equator, and during the northern hemisphere monsoon, the north coast and the string of island leading to the west, enjoy uninterrupted North Pacific Ocean swells, ideal for surfing. The peak surf season extends from November through late April.

FISHING

Kavieng is located at 2º 35 S & 150º 48m E, and is where the Pacific Ocean & the Bismarck Sea meet. It is this convergence of tides & currents that bring with them the bait fish which create the beginning of the food chain on and around the hundreds of reefs surrounding the 149 plus islands making up the New Ireland Province. All of that make this area an anglers paradise!!

cyclING

New Ireland’s coastline is ideal for cycling. The Boluminski Highway, which runs from Kavieng down the north-eastern side of the island, is flat and sealed all the way beyond Namatanai. There are a large number of guest house accommodations all the way down the coast to choose from, so you can break up your trip and experience true village life.
